Fun Things to Do in New York this Fall

The Autumn months are some of the best in New York City. The big apple has so much to offer when the weather starts to dip that you have no excuse for not venturing out. From street fairs to Halloween festivals, beautiful tourist attractions and historic landmarks, the city is a wonderful place to be in the Autumn months. After reading about the following events, anyone on a short trip might be tempted to convert their holiday to an extended stay in New York!

Feast of San Gennaro: Held from 14th to 24th Sept, the feast is dedicated to the Patron Saint of Naples and involves the consumption of delicious authentic Italian food, live music performances, a Cannoli eating contest and all things Italian. Don’t forget to participate in the ‘ultimate Italian grub crawl’ which takes place from Mulberry Street to Grand and Hester streets.

NYC Marathon: Join over 40,000 marathoners at this annual event which takes place in the first week of November each year and consists of a 26.2 mile course that runs through all five boroughs of the city. If you are interested in participating, sign up on their website where you can also download free training guides to get you in shape for the big day.

Skating Rink at Rockefeller Center: For those considering an extended stay in New York, the skating rink at Rockefeller Center is a must visit and opens in October for the winter session, having just completed its 80th anniversary season.

Thanksgiving Parade by Macy’s: Thanksgiving is not complete without this massive parade, which takes place on Thanksgiving day and includes massive floats, clowns, giant balloons, marching bands and much more. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the parade and many new balloons will be making an entrance. Although available to watch on TV, watching the free parade in person will make for a truly magnificent day out.

New York City Wine and Food festival: Running from 13th to 16th October, this tasty festival brings together celebrity chefs and professionals from the culinary industry such as famous chocolatier Jacques Torres. That’s not all, the festival gives you the opportunity to attend wine tasting events, parties and sit-down dinners including an Italian feast, a burger bash, a ‘haute dogs and champagne’ event and a Halloween dessert party!

Comic Con: Taking place between 5th & 8th October, this event attracts over 150,000 comic book fans every year and is one of the most anticipated events in New York. Check out multiple panels featuring your favorite graphic novel authors. The best part of Comic Con is the cosplay that fans indulge in, dressing up as every superhero on the planet. If you want to attend but don’t want to create an entire costume, head to the nearest Halloween store. This year’s Comic Con will see Keanu Reeves in attendance as well.
